In Residence Sandra Ono in Residence at SoEx
Bay area artist Sandra Ono will be in residence at Southern Exposure for the months of April and May, creating a new project in response to the architecture of Southern Exposure’s building. Ono’s work involves a seemingly obsessive accrual of everyday materials (bringing to mind the behavior of hoarders) and the transformation of these accumulations into biomorphic sculptures. Ono will create a multi-layered installation using plastic sandwich bags, continuing her exploration of materials that come into contact with the body (or, more precisely in this case, materials that come into contact with materials that go into the body) as a vehicle for creating intuitive abstractions that refer to processes and micro-processes taking place inside the body. Visitors will be able to watch the piece evolve over time. Ono will have open studio hours every Friday from 12-6. In addition to these Friday hours, Sandra will be working consistently at SoEx at various unscheduled times throughout her residency.
