YAB PROJECT + EVENT Desde Abajo Subimos: From the Bottom We Rise A project by SoEx's Youth Advisory Board Exhibition, Opening Reception and Celebration December 12, 2008, 7 - 9 pm Exhibition Dates: December 12 - December 19, 2008 Teaching Artists: Tara Foley, Javier Gutierrez, Hope Hilton, and Jihaari Terry Youth Advisory Board Members: Julie Ainsbury, Essence Alexander, Diego Armando, Alexandra Arnold, Saluzdina Banderas, Constance Castillo, Allyson Cook , Adrienne Dunlap, Nathaniel Galipeau, Luis Gutierrez, Emma Hazen, Pao Chi Kau, Teresa King, Daniel Lemus, Alejandro M., Bryan Marciano, Melissa Mejia, Nina Potepan, Maxine Puorro, Enrique Ramirez, Byron Ramos, and Jessica Repas Community Partners: Columbia Park Boys & Girls Club, Jewish Vocational Services, and Making Waves From September through December 2008, SoEx's Youth Advisory Board (YAB) members, teaching artists and Community Partners have transformed SoEx's 14th Street back gallery into a classroom and workshop space devoted to YAB. YAB members have immersed themselves in a healthy dialog around stereotypes, personal experiences and documentation, with a focus on photography and video literacy, black and white film processing, video production, storyboarding, set design, installation and urban typography. On December 12th, YAB presents their investigations with the screening of Centipeace, alongside a photo and prop installation and exhibition inspired by the video's set. Centipeace revisits early 1980's video game aesthetics and promotes a dialog around the harmful effects of stereotypes that relate to teenagers and the transformative power that comes from self-definition.
