Opening Reception: April 5th, 6-9pm Eleanor Harwood gallery is pleased to present the newest solo exhibition by Nickolas Mohanna. The show is titled, "Figure Below," and will involve a new suite of 20 ink and watercolor drawings as well as an interactive audio/video installation. In "Figure Below," Mohanna uses watercolor and video to reflect upon states of nature as well as industry and human interaction. His images and environments are indicative of a world in perpetual flux and explore notions of fatality, birth, and decay. The group of ink drawings on display walk a fine line between abstraction and representation while the generative and time-based aspect of the installation investigates the natural and artificial. The artist is exploring more formal elements of line and space in this work compared to his last body of work shown at Adobe Books in '06. In his previous show the titles elucidated the meaning and decoded the rules used to create each image. This show still includes titles as an important part of his process, however they do not always come first. A title can translate and immediately change a a visual experience. Mohanna both enhances and limits interpretation of his images in this new body of work.
