The project takes place from 2-5 in the Kezar Triangle in Golden Gate Park to mark Solstice - but there are several other layers of markings within the work. The Friends of Kezar Triangle (supported by the Carla and David Crane Foundation) have designed a very thoughtful and artistic proposal to activate this underused area of GG Park, with groundbreaking planned for 2013. The proposal includes subtle landscaping and art works that point to the many histories inherent to the site; including the Quigley House that burned there in 1912 and a barley patch grown to feed the horses that were in the nearby stables. Some say that the introduction of barley into the soil created more diversity in the SF landscape. Markings highlights these histories by outlining the two areas in chalk. A large mass of mylar flags will create a sculptural form, to mark an under appreciated 'empty' space, a part of KT’s present. This artwork will be the final destination for a ‘tour’ of KT that will be performed by SF artist Emily Tareil [emilytareila.com]. Leading her tour complete with a custom-made KT flag, participants can follow her as she shares specific memories and histories of KT and a dialogue about the affect of memory on our relationship to places. After the tour, participants are invited to drink barley tea, and be a part of an interactive art piece in which they can ‘mark’ this place with their own thoughts about Kezar Triangle and its memories - including those created during the event.
