Koans and Performance Project Koans and Performance Project
Koans and Performance Project is a multi-disciplinary musical theater performance inspired by Zen Koans, created by theater artists and musicians from Denmark, Poland, and the US, directed by Asa Horvitz and Lukasz Korczak. As part of their investigation into Zen Koan work as the basis for creating contemporary performance, this international group of notable artists and musicians work together in Sonoma County for two months during the summer of 2013. In this time they are drawing from improvisations of questions posed by Zen Koans, confrontations with oneself onstage, and connections made with the community and unique landscape of Sonoma County, their new united home. Performers will respond to Koans and other dramaturgical elements not as Zen students, but as actors, designers, and musicians, democratically, side by side.
