Three Day Stubble, John Trubee, Merchants of the New Bizzare Three Day Stubble
Thursday, July 11, 2013 Doors 8pm, first band 9pm $5 - $10 sliding scale Three Day Stubble Since its inception in 1980, Three Day Stubble has graced the stage with the likes of Beck, the Boredoms, Thinking Fellers Union Local 282, Faith No More, Jad Fair, and Sun City Girls. Sought after for their singular ability to show the glory and horror of white American culture turned inward upon itself, they personify the incestuous expulsive ramifications of our democratic free society. The band refers to its music as 'nerd rock,' but that fails to capture the depth and scope of their strangeness. Try to imagine a hybrid of Captain Beefheart's advanced rythmic/harmonic weaves, the naiveté and inadvertent dadaisms of the Shaggs, and the ingratiating enthusiasm of, say, Kukla, Fran and Ollie. Still not close. http://www.threedaystubble.com John Trubee and the Ugly Janitors of America (with the Carl Franzoni Erotic Frenzy Dancers) John Trubee's dada/surrealist account of an acid trip became the most famous song-poem recording of all time. ““Blind Man’s Penis” became a favorite on the Dr. Demento radio program. In Matt Groening’s homage to Trubee, he lists Trubee’s most important titles like "Sexual Intercourse Is the Most Obscene Thing Imaginable," "Criminal Ants from Outer Space," "Mélange of Copulating Stooges," "You Fucking Self-Indulgent Sons of Bitches," "I Have Always Hated Adults," "Jamboree of the Pinheads," "The World Is Run by Fat Ugly Businessmen," "Squids From Another Galaxy," "Girls Wanna Dance, Guys Wanna Fuck," "Goddamn Society!," and "I, a Sensitive Young Poet." http://www.songpoemmusic.com/trubee.htm Merchants of the New Bizarre Featuring Mad Dog, whose tail belies his snarl and bark, Merchants of the New Bizarre are a San Francisco institution; not the kind built of lathe and plaster but created before your very eyes from toys, accordions, horns, washboards, and the unfettered bliss of pure-ignorance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvK16N8LYPM For more information, please visit: http://www.facebook.com/events/488057494605607/ The Lab 2948 16th Street San Francisco, CA 94103
