An Evening of Poets’ TheaterPost an Event »

As a part of our 20th Anniversary Conversation series and in conjunction with our current exhibition with artist Wayne Smith, Gallery 16 is pleased to announce a night celebrating the rich tradition of Poet’s Theater! Since the 1970's, an active Poet's Theater in the Bay Area has happily blurred the lines between poetry, playwriting, and performance. What's more, these productions have always fostered collaborations between writers, visual artists, actors, dancers, and musicians. With the fourth wall always on the cusp of utter collapse, Poet's Theater has been a distinctive and renowned Bay Area art form for five decades. Three local writers will direct plays in our gallery space: Oakland poets Lindsey Boldt and Sara Wintz, and San Francisco's own Kevin Killian. Killian will revive Wayne Smith's Manual For a Block. Wintz directs Hannah Weiner's Romeo and Juliet. Boldt has written a brand new play for the occasion, titled The Reading.
