Just turn on the light switch to view. About the artist: Jennifer Locke composes physically intense actions in relation to the camera and specific architecture in order to explore hierarchies between artist, model, camera and audience. Working in video and installation-based performance, her actions focus on cycles of physicality, duration and visibility. Exhibition venues include the 2010 California Biennial; Exile, Berlin; the Berkeley Art Museum; and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Locke recently received a Fleishhacker Foundation Eureka Fellowship. About Savernack Street: Savernack Street is a new San Francisco gallery in the Mission curated by Carrie Sinclair Katz. Savernack Street exhibits site-specific works experienced as the encounter/event of one peering through a reversed peephole. Outside looking in: a voyeuristic lens. This gallery functions as a floating facade of collapsible binaries; both marked and unmarked, interior and exterior, Savernack Street is accessible to anyone on the street 24 hours a day and yet rigidly boundaried-- rejecting entrance, forcing limited perspective. The peephole, an analog live security camera originally invented to create a wider view for assessing the safety of strangers, here, when activated, renders the gallery itself as insecure.
