Unseen/Unsaid Jason Hanasik
On the evening of Saturday, February 21st, the gallery spaces of Climate Theater will be transformed into an exciting one-night art exhibition and performance event. This event will feature artists and performers in all media who explore the territory of that which cannot be spoken, defies words, is unmentionable, forbidden or unacknowledged. From Dirty Towels to the Hottentot Venus, Unseen/Unsaid will present themes from the invisible edges of our cultural landscape, and investigate the shifting spheres of private vs. public, appropriate vs. inappropriate, and all that is pushed under the rug. Curated by the Climate Curatorial Collective, Unseen/Unsaid presents a fascinating and diverse grouping of Bay Area art. Established in 1985, Climate is known for such innovative landmark programs as the Solo Mio Festival, which presented such prestigious performers as Spalding Gray, David Sedaris, Allen Ginsberg and Margaret Cho. Climate is currently home to the weekly Music Box Series, Night Vision experimental film series, the MicroClimate project space, and a wide variety of new circus and other theatrical events, including a thriving resident artist program. Climate is run by artistic director Jessica Heidt. The Climate Curatorial Collective's mission is to foster supportive collaboration and experimentation outside the formal gallery system. The CCC adds to the vitality of the SF arts scene by creating opportunities for artists to present ephemeral works outside established categories, and to take risks without commercial pressures.
