Benefit Event: Celebrating Across Cultures
On March 25, SF Camerawork hosts "Celebrating Across Cultures", a benefit event in celebration of the exhibition "United in Nima: Bay Area and Ghanaian Youth Share Lives Through the Lens." The event features a silent auction of the more than 50 photographs in the exhibition created by under-served youth from SF Camerawork's First Exposures photography mentoring program and teens living in the notoriously poor Nima slum of Accra, Ghana who spent three weeks together last summer in Africa sharing their lives, culture and art. The event also features the premiere showing of the First Exposures Adobe Youth Voices multimedia arts project a pictorial narrative created by the youth of First Exposures that explores the differences between life in Ghana and the United States and the power of friendship to bridge them. Attendees will also enjoy African music with Ghanaian DJ RasNii, Jim Sowers and DJ SpinCycle as well as hors d'oeuvres and a no-host bar. All proceeds benefit SF Camerawork's First Exposures photography mentoring program. ADMISSION: Sliding scale $10 - $20 per person
