Project Space is a unique artist residency where the artist’s 1,800-square-foot studio is open to the public five afternoons a week in Headlands' main building. Visitors are encouraged to interact with the artist, ask questions, explore their studio, and get an insider’s view into the artistic process.
During his time in the Project Space, Sonny Smith will develop a project called 100 Records, which aims to tell the story of a year through vinyl 45 covers. The artist plans to collaborate with Bay Area visual artists, including Veronica De Jesus, Jim Long, Jack Massing, Alice Shaw, Virgil Shaw and Dan Tierney, to illustrate the album covers. Smith will compose and record music to accompany each cover, also in collaboration with other musicians. You’re invited to join Sonny Smith as he transforms the Project Space into a hybrid recording studio and artist’s workshop.
