Oh, Inverted World Jennifer & Kevin McCoy, The Constant World, 2007, multi-media installation
Location: Eastwing, Building 944 Ticket Info: $10 General Admission, FREE for Headlands Members There is often (though not always) a method to the madness. Jennifer and Kevin McCoy (AIRs '09) and Miguel Palma (AIR '09) engage in a multidisciplinary practice that aims to make sense of or reimagine the chaos of the human world through intricate systems. For Jennifer and Kevin McCoy, these systems manifest as films and robotic installations, among other things, that shake up and recreate the tropes of personal memory, cinematic genres and commercial culture. Approaching installation from a different angle, Portuguese artist Miguel Palma works to replicate the self-sustaining systems of the natural world through kinetic sculpture and automobile design, suggesting that human technology would be wise to take a lesson from Mother Nature. This program is an exciting opportunity to engage with three of the most innovative contemporary artists working in new media installation today. Moderator Joel Slayton is an artist, writer and researcher. He is the Director of the CADRE Laboratory for New Media, an interdisciplinary academic program in the School of Art and Design, at San Jose State University. We ask that you kindly RSVP to public programs by emailing info@headlands.org.
