Media Room
Catharine Clark Gallery announces concurrent solo exhibitions by American artists: Jim Barsness: Dharma Bums and Philip Knoll: Paradise Found. The media room will feature two animations by Estonian artist, Marko Mäetamm. The exhibition dates are March 21 – May 9, 2009. An opening reception for the artists is Saturday, March 21, 2009, from 4 to 6pm. The Media Room will feature two hand-drawn animation videos by Estonian artist, Marko Mäetamm: All We Need is Love (2009) and Car Ride (2008). Marko Mäetamm was born in Viljandi, Estonia. He now lives and works in Tallinn, Estonia. In 1995 he received an MA in Fine Arts from the Estonian Academy of Arts and in 1993, he earned a BA in Printmaking from the same school. Catharine Clark Gallery became familiar with his morbidly humorous videos when they were presented by Nettie Horn Gallery, London, at the Pulse Fair, New York, 2009. Mäetamm also exhibits with Galerie Anton Weller and Galerie Isabell Suret in Paris. His work was included in an exhibition at the Venice Biennale in 2007, Loser’s Paradise, Estonian Pavilion at 52. International Art Exhibition, la Biennale di Venezia, Venice, Italy. Forthcoming exhibits include shows at Gallery Vartai, Vilnius, Lithuania; Dorsky Gallery, New York; and Wäinö Aaltonen Museum of Art, Turku, Finland; among others. His quirky, wickedly comedic, and grim videos that employ a drawing-based approach to animation are a complimentary pairing from both an aesthetic and conceptual perspective with James Barsness and Philip Knoll’s artwork. It is the first time Mäetamm’s video work has been screened in San Francisco.
