Accompanying Huck is a group show; Dark Americana. Dark Americana is a survey of 20 artist's concerns and responses to America's current and historical state of affairs. In these artifacts of unique perspectives, we find an undercurrent of skepticism and criticism of cultural identity. Although the artists in this exhibition are not unlike the Americans who feel a sense of hope for the future and frustration for the past, Dark Americana offers an opportunity to reflect on our nation's complex issues of politics, economics, war, race, technology, homelessness, homophobia, a romanticized Hollywood, inflated consumer markets, our utopian forefathers and religious fundamentalism. With the recent changes in political leadership, Americans are reminded of a strong sense of responsibility towards American citizenship. Dark Americana helps us remember the past, come to terms with the present and prepare for the future. Artists featured in Dark Americana are listed below. Derek Albeck Grant Barnhart Charles Browning Bruce Conner Chris Crites R. Crumb Oscar Cueto Jack Daws John De Fazio Bill Fick Scott Fife Maria Forde Rebecca Goldfarb Charles Krafft George Kuchar Mike Kuchar Brendan Lott Raymond Pettibon Lizabeth Eva Rossof Roger Shimomura An opening reception will be held at the gallery on Saturday, April 4th, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Admission to the gallery is always free, and the artists will be in attendance.
