Project Space Genine Lentine (AIR '09) in her Project Space studio
When: April 6 - April 20, open Tuesday-Friday and Sunday from noon-5PM Where: Headlands Center for the Arts' Project Space, 3rd Floor, Building 944 How: FREE admission Project Space is a unique artist residency where the artist’s 1,800-square-foot studio is open to the public five afternoons a week in Headlands' main building. Visitors are encouraged to interact with the artist, ask questions, explore their studio, and get an insider’s view into the artistic process. Says Lentine, "Whatever its overt form - poetry, lyric essay, fiction, interview - my work begins with close inquiry. So often, a poem leads me to research new subjects through reading, interaction, conducting interviews, and other forms of 'field work.' I cultivate a sense of formal flexibility, trying to stay alert and responsive to what each poem requires. Often what leads me to write a poem is some ordinary moment that I want to dilate and investigate in language, to offer the poem as diving bell, an alternative to a headlong linear rush. Experience is always offering up these prompts - my overarching concern is to cultivate conditions that allow me to respond in language to this ongoing encounter of the opulence of existence. Here at Headlands, time in the Project Space has offered an opportunity to delve into several projects that in some way manifest aspects of the writing process and invite visitors into this process: Listening Booth, The Heinous Task Table, The Letter Table, and proJECT spacewalks."
