The idea of the refuge city, in which those granted asylum have to begin their lives anew never to return to their old cities, has existed for millennia. In our time the city of refuge is a destination of choice for those who simply want to get away and start again as opposed to being the last resort for survival. The myth of the West, the great land of amnesia, invites all disaffected and ambitious people to join in. What better place to reinvent ourselves than the edge of a continent blessed with warm weather and the spirit of new beginnings? This exhibition is an exploration of Exile and Asylum.
Jason Montano is an urban photographer. His images are captured in situ with the eye and the hand and transformed into investigations in humanity in his finished works.
Charlie Milgrim’s installations explore the intersection of culture and environment.
Eric Bohr presents paintings that are concerned with the ambiguity and dichotomy of our urban lives, coupled with video work to create a kinetic ride. He seeks to make room for the viewer to preserve private contemplation or simply join in with the imagery. It is a celebration of the deceptively mundane moment. For in each moment there exists an infinite number of paths and choices are made, consciously or otherwise, continuously.
