Reconstructing the RealPost an Event »

Reconstructing the Real Elín Hansdóttir, Untitled, 2003, plywood, mirrors, plexiglass, pvc
Where does the human impulse to take the world apart and put it back together come from? Elín Hansdóttir (AIR '09) tackles this impulse by reconstructing the built environment around her. In creating architectural interventions, Hansdóttir points to the incredible power that architecture has over our every day movements and interactions. Her work calls attention to the close ties between our understanding of the world and the material realities that surround us. Scott Oliver (AIR '09) uses the process of dismantling and reassembling to repurpose everyday objects, making them useful in new ways. These artists will present site-specific work that illustrates how disassembling physical objects can help construct an idea of reality.
