Corpo/Ilicito: The Post-Human Society 6.9 A new performance project by Guillermo Gómez-Peña & Violeta Luna Two nights only! Friday, September 11th and Saturday 12th, 8:00 PM CounterPULSE: 310 Mission St. @ 9th in San Francisco ph: 415-626-2060 Tickets are limited: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/73700 ph: 1-800-838-3006 Labeled as “the most influential Latino experimental arts troupe in the past 10 years,” la Pocha Nostra continues to surprise audiences throughout the world with their shocking interactive ritual performances questioning power relations and the criminalization of the brown body. Corpo/Ilicito premiered in the 2009 Habana Biennale (Cuba) and The Trouble Festival (Brussels, Belgium). Other versions have been performed at El Arte es Accion (Madrid, Spain), PRISMA ( Mexico) and the Three Rivers Art Festival (Pittsburgh). In their latest project, la Pocha creates a performance setting that is both live jam session and reflective zone. The full environment installation ultimately allows the audience to co-direct the fate of the performance. Gomez-Peña has said about this project: “As live artists, our task is to create living metaphors that articulate a new aesthetic, culture, spirituality and a sexuality that emerge out of the ruins of our Western civilization.” Corpo/Ilicito: The Post-Human Society 6.9 is presented through the CounterPULSE Rental Exchange Program. This non-curated, open-access program offers subsidized space and resources, enabling artists to self-produce a wide variety of performances, workshops, and events.
