Waiting for a Train: The Toshio Hirano Story (2009), by Oscar Bucher, tracks Toshio Hirano’s forty-year love affair with country music from Tokyo to Tennessee to San Francisco. Born in Japan in the 1950s, Hirano became interested in bluegrass and country music as a teenager. He later emigrated to the US to pursue his love of the music. San Francisco has been Hirano's home since 1986; he continues to play in cafes and bars around town, entertaining audiences with tales of trains, cowboys, and broken hearts.
