Opening reception: March 14, 2008, 6-8pm Ruth Laskey will present seven new weavings that continue her Twill Series. Using a loom, she creates pieces of linen embedded with colorful geometric shapes derived from the structure of the weave itself. For this body of work, Laskey draws upon her painting background to create new interpretations of color, space, and structure within the weaving process. Hand-dyed colored threads are woven to create subtle illusions of transparent overlap that resonate with the airiness of the woven material. Minimal and delicate, Laskey’s practice reinvests in the exploration of the image as it relates to its support with a personal intimate aesthetic.
