One’s Breath Audibly
A solo show of new work by local artist Tanya Wischerath will take place at a.Muse Gallery from December 15 – January 15, 2009. There will be a public reception with the artist on Tuesday, December 15, from 7 – 10 p.m. Musical guest Fuzzpod will perform at 9 pm. Admission is free. a.Muse is open seven days a week by appointment. An artist with an eye to the zeitgeist and a hand to the classical, Tanya Wischerath seeks to explain what is timeless about that which surrounds her. This is by no means an obvious aim--not one that will be captured at first glance. Rather, an aesthetic appeal is only an entry point into a much deeper contemplation on that which makes us human. Which stories shape that identification that is the most personal? What do we adapt from a collective consciousness but name our own for the sake of survival and flourish? Tanya Wischerath's work explains that which is inexplicable, satisfying the task of a visual artist on fronts both immediate and resonant. Though Born in San Francisco, Wischerath grew up moving between Denmark, Brazil, and the US. She studied painting at Moore College of Art and Design and California College of the Arts. She currently lives in San Francisco and pays the bills by bartending and is grateful for her place at Mojuju Tattoo as an artist and tattooist.
