Root Division presents, The Known Universe, guest curated by Gipe+Tell. Despite unprecedented scientific insight into the nature of the universe, most of the world’s population continues to reside in shadows cast by myth. In “The Known Universe,” ten California artists provide a fertile ground for observation, production, and critical discourse on this centuries-old struggle between science and superstition. Taking as their point of departure scientific disciplines from astronomy to zoology these artists attempt a quantifiable model of knowledge with a self-consciously ontological approach.
