This inaugural exhibit consists of the work of Lucas DeGiulio, Bill Jenkins and Chadwick Rantanen. The three artists, all with ties to San Francisco, not only share an affinity for the minimal but, also, tend toward the mystical. For Jenkin's, the everyday is transformed from the ordinary. His handling of common materials produces highly formal yet enigmatic surfaces and textures. In a similar fashion, DeGiulio gathers materials, often from nature, to reform them into surrealistic, cuneiform-like icons. Rantanen, like DeGiulio, frequently begins with found objects, however, he, more often than not, references domestic settings. With a dry wit, he presents the banality of popular culture, through slight, sometimes eerie, gestures. Lucas DeGiulio's work was included in the 2006 Whitney Biennial and was exhibited at Guild & Greyshkul in New York in 2007. Bill Jenkins graduated with his BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and his MFA from UC Berkeley. His work has been included in exhibits at Queen's Nails Annex in San Francisco and conTEMPORARY Inc. in New York. Chadwick Rantanen received his BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in Film and Video. He also attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. His work has been shown widely in San Francisco and most recently at Artists Space in New York.
