Gallery 16 is pleased to welcome German photographer Thomas Heinser to his first solo show with the gallery. There will be an opening reception for the artist on Friday, April 9 from 6-9PM that will coincide with the opening for Sonny Smith's "100 Records" exhibition, also at Gallery 16
Translated as “over-view or view above,” Überblick is the artist’s photographic exploration of nature and structure. Inspired by his work photographing aircraft, people and architecture, Heinser captures the beautiful and graphic intersection of these worlds as viewed from above.
On display at the gallery will be large-scale aerial photographs of some of the world’s most impressive bridges and other structures and their surroundings. A monumental and ongoing project, the work includes views from Lisbon, Millau, New York, Benicia, San Francisco. Heinser brings man, steel, land and sea together in a rich and graphic landscape. “Looking straight down from above lets me have a close up view of the world, in this case of some astonishing engineering accomplishments, and allows me to compose the image much like shooting a portrait,” says Heinser.
Heinser enjoys a widely versatile career, working with art galleries, media and ad agencies Worldwide as well as working as an educator. He has received numerous awards for his work and his photographs have been included and published in several books.
