Complex: or, if a metaphysician couldn’t draw, what would he think?
Fivepoints Arthouse in collaboration with aptProjects.curatorial is excited to announce the opening of Complex: or, if a metaphysician couldn’t draw, what would he think?, a two person exhibition of recent photo-based works by Elizabeth Bernstein and Ryan Hendon. In order to confer spatiality upon thought, drawing has been used throughout history to communicate effectively, efficiently the most complex of thoughts. The works that comprise Complex: or, if a Metaphysician Couldn’t Draw What Would He Think? represent a modern, industrial type of drawing. Like an immense drawing formed in the mind by images and not by marks on a page. Through quietly charged photo-based works that address familiar spaces, the residue of spaces intended for protection and the tension in between, the works of Elizabeth Bernstein and Ryan Hendon compel us to think through complex philosophical conversations. These are dense explorations, not mere depictions of the relationship between space and culture. These works are arguments for a place in which human activities have profound implications for everyone. Our being, confronted with the being of the world. Opening reception Friday, April 9th 7-11pm On display through May 1st Curated by aptProjects.curatorial, an artistic & curatorial collaborative effort between San Francisco based artists, Jessica Laurent and Erik Parra.
