Girl in Light with Hands Danae Anderson, The Visit and Kiki, mixed media on panel, 96" x 72"
Opening Reception: Wednesday, May 5, 2010, 5:30 - 7:30 PM “The relationship with my work is physical and instinctive. Before I paint on board, I work on large expanses of paper. I “warm up” like a dancer, singer, or writer.” -- Danäe Anderson Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition for Danäe Anderson opening Wednesday, May 5, 2010. Anderson composes her mixed media paintings by tapping into the uncensored conscious, allowing for an uncluttered thought process. Trained as an improvisational dancer, Anderson was influenced by Merce Cunningham and his belief that music, movement, and art are one. This belief continues to influence Anderson’s work and corresponds with her investigation into the art processes of indigenous cultures. A deep overlay of language, dreams, the self, the ordinary, memory, and daily experience weave together to form Anderson’s visual landscape. The viewer catches fleeting impressions of these ideas, which have been condensed into obscured symbols and words that document and honor the human experience. Danäe Anderson earned a BFA from the California College of Arts and Crafts (now CCA) in 1978 and a MFA in 1998 from San Jose State University. Anderson has received a Pollack - Krasner Foundation Grant, and was awarded a fellowship from the Westerns Arts Foundation. She has been commissioned for numerous public art projects and her work is in many collections including the Nevada Museum of Art. Andrea Schwartz Gallery was established in 1982 and is located in the South of Market district of San Francisco. ASG exhibits contemporary work of emerging to mid-career artists from the Bay Area and across the country. ASG is a member of SFADA. Gallery Hours are Monday - Friday 9 - 5, Saturday 1 – 5.
