Video Action by Jennifer Locke features a new exciting body of work as well as never before and rarely seen performative videos of the artist from the early 1990's. Jennifer Locke is a San Francisco-based artist obsessed with the body and how it relates to structured systems of viewing. She uses video, installation, and still photography to frame sculptural actions, often involving intense physical effort. Her work engages visual themes that draw on her past experiences as a professional dominatrix, champion submission wrestler, and --earlier on-- as an artists' model. Pieces incorporate multiple camera perspectives, architectural space, athletic bodies, wireless microphones, mini-cameras, video projections, and the audience itself. Cameras and microphones (often present within the frame) operate as representation-extenders, visually and aurally framing, repeating, echoing, and amplifying the action. These reiterations create residual pieces that take on their own afterlife. Locke has exhibited in venues such as the 48th Venice Biennale; Air de Paris, Paris; the 9th Havana Biennial; the Basel Art Fair, Kunsthalle, Basel; La Panaderia, Mexico City; Palais de Beaux-Arts, Brussels; Canada, New York; Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco; and the Berkeley Art Museum, Berkeley. She has curated for Artists' Television Access and Queens Nails Annex, co-produced a cable access show, sung in punk bands, and given a variety of workshops. She received her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and was awarded the 2006 Chauncey McKeever Award. Locke is currently an adjunct professor at St. Mary's College of California and she also teaches at the San Francisco Art Institute. Love Is Not Enough by Calvin Trezise is a new series of photographs, which attempt to distill the male condition into a cohesive set of "tableaux vivants". Caught on camera by friend and photographer Mark McKnight, the work represents the artist's long-standing interest and investigation of power structures within sexuality, identity of the individual. Through the symbolic interaction of his body with people, objects and environments, each photographed scene in Love Is Not Enough reveals the artist reinterpreting and reiterating the historical notions of masculinity while revealing a new comprehension of male identity. Calvin Treziselives and works in San Francisco, California. He received his BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2007 and has been included in numerous exhibitions including Opera at 533 gallery, Los angeles, Cal Jam Too at Blankspace Gallery,Oakland, New Langton Arts San francisco, Love Is Not Enough is his first solo exhibition. Queen's Nails Projects (QNP) is a curatorial platform dedicated to presenting collaborative, site-specific, and experimental projects by both artists and independent curators. QNP aims to challenge both emerging and established cultural producers to work outside their normal practice in order to produce new and unique projects. Programing and support is provided by Zoe Taleporos, Justine Hoover, Rachel Adams with Jackie Im, Kim Silva and Julio Cesar Morales.
