Kaleidoscape
Drawn to collaging geometric compositions with natural environments, Chris Vogel realizes these figures in real space and time. Using bookbinding thread Chris has experimented gridding shapes and planes across rooms to see how they manipulate natural spaces. The planes dissect the space around them in a multitude of fractions and triangles that shift as you move between them. Chris Vogel Bio I'm a lego kid. In an era overwhelmed with technology, I'm inspired by those exercising craft in their bare hands. Extending dexterity to the limits of my imagination has become a meditation fueling me through different mediums of fine art. I earned my BA at San Francisco State University after briefly attending California's College of the Arts. My emphasis has always been printmaking and naturally I've become very fond of bookbinding as well. Printmaking has allowed me to explore the dialogue between head and hand in a multitude of different genres. Inspired by the network of emerging artists in the SF bay area, in 2006 I began volunteering at Creativity Explored's nonprofit visual art studios where I was able to introduce large scale printmaking to developmentally disabled artists. Having only recently graduated in 2009, I consider myself incredibly fortunate to work at Trillium Graphics, a fine arts press and publisher, where I'm able to utilize my experiences and work alongside some of the world's most renown printmakers. Artist couple, Tina Dillman and Naaman Rosen in July 2009, founded WE artspace. It is the focus of the space to navigate culture through primarily two-dimensional, cutting edge art produced by Bay Area residents. Viewing hours are Friday and Saturday 12pm -3pm and by appointment. To schedule an appointment please contact info@weartspace.com. WE artspace is located at 768 40th Street, Oakland, CA, 94609, on the corner of 40th and West Street, just two blocks west of the MacArthur Bart Station.
