A combination of live and recorded readings of Reneé Green’s selected writings from Other Planes of There and other writings by San Francisco Art Institute Reading Performance Workshop participants, with ambient sound and music mix by Greg Tate.
The basis of the Reading Performance Workshop is to engage with a manuscript (Other Planes of There: Selected Writings 1981-2006) and other writings of Renée Green's that are developed into spoken performances and recordings. The topics are broad and include reflections on the road, travel, sound, electronic music, cities, film, bodies, feeling, thinking, artistic formations, aesthetics and politics, independent production, situationists, global-local encounters (including biennials), and art + life into the 21st century.
Greg Tate was a Staff Writer at The Village Voice from 1987–2003. His writings on culture and politics have also been published in The New York Times, Artforum, Rolling Stone, VIBE, The Wire, DownBeat, and JazzTimes. Tate is the founder and conductor of Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber, originally conceived in 1999 as a forum to compose, record, and perform material which reflects the breadth and depth of American diasporan music in the 21st century.
