Wiesenfeld Visiting Artist Lecture Series: Colter Jacobsen
160 Kroeber Hall Colter Jacobsen uses an idiosyncratic collection of found source material to create drawings and assemblage. Exploring the concept of memory, his highly detailed work focuses on notions of disappearance, remembering and forgetting. In his practice, the artist draws from a wide range of unusual objects bought in thrift stores, lost personal items found in the urban environment, or recycled packaging with unusual details. Jacobsen has had solo exhibitions at CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Art (2009), Jack Hanley Gallery (2008) and 4 Star (2006), San Francisco; and Corvi-Mora, London (2008). His work has been included in group shows at White Columns, New York (2008 and 2006), Zero, Milan, Italy (2008), and Engholm Engelhorn Galerie, Vienna (2007). He lives and works in San Francisco. The Department of Art Practice Visiting Artist Lecture Series is sponsored by the Betsey Straub Wiesenfeld Visiting Artist Endowment, the Bonwitt-Heine Memorial Lecture Endowment and the UC Berkeley Department of Art Practice.
