Artist Talk: Tino RodriguezPost an Event »

Artist Tino Rodríguez will speak at the San Jose Museum of Art on Thursday, May 13, at 6:30 p.m. The San Francisco artist, who was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, will discuss his art, inspiration, and his work on the music video for Antony and the Johnsons’ song “Epilepsy is Dancing.” Directed by the Wachowski brothers (The Matrix), the video projects Rodríguez’s paintings out of the canvas and explores the connections between two- and three-dimensional work. Rodríguez’s painting El Amante (The Lover) is featured in the current exhibition Real & HyperReal. Admission to the talk is $5 (free to SJMA members). Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.artsopolis.com. Rodríguez (b. 1965) paints highly detailed jewel-toned canvases influenced by the techniques and imagery of sources including Old Master paintings, the Mexican Surrealists, medieval illuminated manuscripts, and the art he encountered in the Catholic churches of his native Mexico.
