Out of Work: Artists Respond to the Economy Out of Work: 1310 Mission St. @ 9th in San Francisco. July 31, 2010. 8pm.
The Employing Heart Project disarms the state of unemployment with a whirlwind of performance art, theatre, video, and good ideas, at San Francisco's CounterPULSE at 1310 Mission St. (@9th) on Saturday July 31, at 8pm. Opening with a melange of spoken word, political lounge singing, and interactive art, it closes with an evocative set of one-acts directed by acclaimed local director Julie Willhite. Through it all weaves the theme of "work" as it relates to identity, power, and love. Additionally, performers will rally the audience members in stress-relieving yelling, burning of plastic idols, and a group hug. Just kidding about the plastic idols.... but not about the thought, laughter, and hope that will come in a time when 12.5% of Californians are jobless.
