Ceramics Lecture Series: Virginia ScotchiePost an Event »

Presented as part of CCA’s Ceramics Lecture Series Virginia Scotchie is interested in familiar things we see, but don’t really see, every day. “The artworks I make are often abstractions of the intimately known objects that populate my world: my son’s toys, my father’s hat, an old kitchen funnel. My objects come into being through making, making, making. It is not always about the objects, but it is always about the making. That is how I begin to understand the ‘what’ that I am seeing.” Scotchie is head of ceramics at the University of South Carolina. She holds an MFA from Alfred University. She exhibits extensively throughout the United States and abroad and has received numerous awards, including the Sydney Myer International Ceramics Award from the Shepparton Museum in Victoria, Australia. She has lectured internationally and has been an artist in residence in Taiwan, Italy, Australia, and the Netherlands.
