Judd Apatow In Conversation with Dave EggersPost an Event »

Director, writer and producer Judd Apatow is well known for his distinct comedic style and involvement in a collection of “foulmouthed straight-man-love movies.” Apatow’s prolific collection of films includes Pineapple Express, The 40 Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up. He’s supported and broken stars such as Steve Carrell, Seth Rogen, and James Franco. Apatow started his career performing stand-up comedy at the age of seventeen, and wrote for The Ben Stiller Show at 24. After struggling for two decades in the worlds of stand-up and movies, he broke out in 1999 when he produced the short-lived cult television series Freaks and Geeks, and Undeclared. His 2009 film, Funny People, was a departure from his usual slapstick repertoire and starred Adam Sandler as a megastar stand-up comedian re-examining his life after being diagnosed with a fatal disease. Apatow recently produced the film Get Him to the Greek. I Found This Funny is a new compilation edited by Apatow (and published by McSweeneys) of some of his favorite authors ranging from F. Scott Fitzgerald to David Foster Wallace. Dave Eggers is the author of A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, You Shall Know Our Velocity and What is the What. He co-founded the San Francisco-based writing center 826 Valencia, which now has chapters in New York, Los Angeles, Michigan, Seattle, Chicago and Boston. Eggers is also the screenwriter of two recent movies, Away We Go and Where the Wild Things Are. His most recent book, Zeitoun, recounts the tragedy one family experienced in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
