Wiesenfeld Visiting Artist Lecture: Helena KeeffePost an Event »

Helena Keeffe is an Oakland artist who creates projects that are a jumping off point for social interaction. Many of her projects explore ideas of generosity and economics of exchange that function outside standard monetary models. Keeffe was the recipient of a Creative Work Fund Grant for her project Drawn Together (2008), a year-long collaboration with Laguna Honda Hospital in San Francisco in which she led long-term-care patients in printmaking workshops. For Muni Maps (2007), commissioned by the San Francisco Arts Commission's Art on Market Street program, Keeffe created six posters featuring a route map annotated with an individual Muni operator's portrait, hand-written notes, interview excerpts and related drawings — depicting the public transportation experience from the perspective of the operator. Keeffe has a BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and is the co-founder of Alula Editions with Amber Cady. The Wiesenfeld Visiting Artist Lecture Series is sponsored by the The Betsey Straub Wiesenfeld Visiting Artist Endowment, The Bonwitt – Heine Memorial Lecture Endowment and the UC Berkeley Department of Art Practice.
