Warehouse416 is pleased to present Transplant featuring art from Jody Medich and Megan Murray. Artist reception on November 5th from 6-10pm at Warehouse 416 as part of the Oakland Art Murmur. There will be a closing reception on November 28 from 1-6pm.
Transplant embraces multiple meanings of the word: Two artists from the Rust Belt transplanted in Oakland, Jody Medich from Detroit Michigan and Megan Murray from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania; the transplantation of “women’s work” into gallery context; and the viewing of artifacts from distant places reconfigured.
Throughout the evening, Jody will be transplanting techniques her grandmother taught her. With washboard and basin, as if washing clothes, she will create a series of paintings that will be hung throughout the gallery to dry. Also on display will be paintings from her series “Detroit”: realism oil paintings that recreate an abandoned city.
In her installation, Tree of Babel, Megan Murray gathers a network of women together to construct leaves for her Weeping Willow fed by a Babbling Brook. With newspaper head lines from around the world, they will use paper mache to create an installation that continues to be fed; growing through out the evening.
