From the Collection of Randi and Bob Fisher
The Pilara Foundation and Pier 24 Photography are pleased to announce the exhibition, From the Collection of Randi and Bob Fisher. The exhibition, which occupies the 28,000 square foot space at Pier 24 on San Francisco's Embarcadero, examines the work of many canonical twentieth century American photographers. From the Collection of Randi and Bob Fisher follows the exhibition Calder to Warhol Introducing the Fisher Collection at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. That exhibition, which premiered this spring, presents selections from the collection Doris and Donald Fisher, co-founders of Gap and parents of Bob Fisher, a collection that will soon become part of SFMOMA. In the tradition of Doris and Donald, San Francisco-based couple Randi and Bob Fisher collect artists in depth, resulting in surveys of work by photography masters including: Lee Friedlander, Robert Adams, Walker Evans, Man Ray, William Eggelston, Gary Winogrand and Diane Arbus. Also on view will be works by contemporary German photographers Bernd and Hilla Becher, Andreas Gursky, and Thomas Struth from the Doris and Donald Fisher collection. From the Collection of Randi and Bob Fisher will open at Pier 24 Photography on September 16th, 2010 and will be on view through February 2011. Pier 24 Photography is open by appointment Monday-Friday 9-5pm. Artists presented in the exhibition From the Collection of Randi and Bob Fisher include: Robert Adams, Diane Arbus, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Harry Callahan, William Eggleston, Walker Evans, Robert Frank, Lee Friedlander, Andres Gursky, John Gutman, Helen Levitt, Richard Misrach, Man Ray, Charles Sheeler, Aaron Siskind, Alfred Stieglitz, Thomas Struth, Paul Strand, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Edward Weston, and Garry Winogrand. About Pier 24 Photography: Pier 24 Photography offers a venue for photographers, educators, collectors and curators to present photography and photographic ideas that are to be shared with the community. Our aim is to provide an environment to experience, study, observe and quietly contemplate photography. In addition to rotating exhibitions, Pier 24 houses the permanent photographic collection of The Pilara Foundation.
