Reaves Gallery celebrates their move to Hayes Valley with their inaugural exhibit featuring new bodies of work by principal artists Blair Bradshaw and Matthew Frederick. This exhibition will open on June 6, 2008 and will run through July 4, 2008. There will be an opening reception Friday June 20th from 6-9 p.m. Bradshaw, uses paint, paper and small constructions for this exhibit. His work is reminiscent of the post abstract expressionists of the late 50's and early 60's, while creating paintings relevant to our contemporary experience. Other than oil paint, the bulk of his materials are mined from everyday life: canvas panels, phone books, common wire, matches and stove burners. Frederick is exhibiting paintings characterized with a careful balance of structure, color, lighting and mood. His compositions are rendered with a resplendent color palette of generous applications of paint and undulating brushwork, lending to a compelling emulation of the patterns and sensations inherent in nature. Gallery owner, Sharon Reaves, is excited to welcome everyone to their new location, saying, "It feels like we moved from a dorm room and have our first grown up space. The past year on Market Street has been amazing but we are excited to invite everyone to our new permanent location in Hayes Valley and I am so proud to present a space for the artists and collectors that is worthy of the quality of our collection." An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, June 20th, from 6 to 9 p.m. The artists will be present to meet and discuss their work with the public. The reception is free and open to all. Gallery hours are 12 to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 12 to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The gallery is available other times by appointment. Reaves Gallery is dedicated to inspiring and guiding local talent while creating an environment comfortable to collectors. The gallery has also established itself as a community resource, organizing educational and informational programs for both artists and collectors.
