Opening Reception, December 3, 2010, 6 – 9 PM
Chandra Cerrito Contemporary is pleased to announce The Moderns, an exhibition curated by Ben Cooper and comprised of works by Jason Kalogiros, Marko Lulic, and Jonathan Runcio.
In our everyday lives we are surrounded by remnants of the Modernist Movement in Art, Design and Architecture. In this three-person show, Jason Kalogiros, Jonathan Runcio (who both live and work in the Bay Area), and Marko Lulic (who is based in Vienna, Austria), explore diverse manifestations of the Modernist project. Individual pieces take as their starting point Post-war urban architecture, the iconic tubular steel furniture of Mart Stam and Marcel Breuer and Josef Albers' seminal study of color theory; Interaction of Color (pub. 1963), and a 1965 edition of his Homage to the Square print series.
Most of the work in The Moderns is new or has not previously been shown on the West Coast. The exhibition includes painting, sculpture, photograms and video, and is curated by CCC Assistant Director Ben Cooper.
