Live/Loud: This is Rock ‘n’ Roll
Opening Reception: June 19, 2008, Thurs 5-9pm Live/Loud is a collection of over 70 photographs taken from the front row of shows and on tour with punk bands. The live music photos include pictures of Teengenerate, Thee Mighty Caesars, Reatards, Battleship, 5678s, Black Lips, Guitar Wolf, Lungfish, Miami, Scratch Acid and many more. The tour photos in Live/Loud capture life on the road with small punk bands playing basements, garages, bars, warehouses, any place they can set up. Murrmann toured with Bay Area bands Short Eyes and Battleship, as well as Portland bands the Clorox Girls, the Observers and Defect Defect, his camera ready at all times. The drinking, debauchery, the tedium, tantrums, blood, beer, breakdowns, the ups/downs, all the in between moments of being on tour. Mark Murrmann is a Bay Area-based photographer and Associate Photo Editor of Mother Jones magazine. He’s been taking pictures at punk shows for almost fifteen years. Over the past few years he’s been grabbing his camera and jumping in vans with bands whenever he has enough time and money, which isn’t nearly as often as he’d like.
