New collages, works on paper and collaborations by Jaime Knight and Lena Wolff Opening Reception: Thursday, December 9, 2010, 7 - 9:30pm Lake Gallery is very pleased to present, In the Beginning new work by Jaime Knight and Lena Wolff. The show includes paper collages, graphite drawings and a light sculpture that draw upon existing and imagined creation myths. Working with elements of light, reflection and patterns of layered collage, these works portray biomorphic mountains, a haunting tree of life and an array of spellbinding constellations. Long time friends who have taught, traveled and created together for the last ten years, the two artists worked separately and collaboratively for this exhibit, culminating in a body of work that communicates back and forth in an evocative and mesmerizing narrative. Jaime Knight earned his BFA from the University of New Mexico in Printmaking and Sculpture and his MA in Art Education from San Francisco State Universiy. He teaches art at Berkeley High School and has taught at Mission Voices, the SFMoMA and CCA. He has exhibited his work locally and nationally. Lena Wolff is a Bay Area-based interdisciplinary artist who works in drawing, painting, collage and public projects. Her work is informed by early American folk art, anthropomorphic fables, animism and veneration for the natural world. In 2009, she was commissioned to make new work for public spaces by both the San Francisco and Alameda County Arts Commissions. She has exhibited at the Legion of Honor Museum, Headlands Center for the Arts, Needles and Pens, the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery, the Lab, Southern Exposure and Space 1026, among others. Wolff is represented by Traywick Contemporary.
