Visiting Artists and Scholars lecture series: Nalini Malani "Remembering Mad Meg," video/shadow work
Nalini Malani's interdisciplinary work—new media, international collaborations, wall drawings, shadow play—is influenced by her experiences as a refugee of the Partition of India. She places inherited iconographies and cherished cultural stereotypes under pressure, with an unwaveringly urban and internationalist point of view. She also expands the dimensions of the pictorial surface to include the surrounding space, creating ephemeral wall drawings, installations, shadow play, multi-projection works, and theater. Her work is in the collections of Museum of Modern Art, New York; Asia Society Museum, New York; National Gallery of Modern Art, Bombay; British Museum, London; and Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, among others. Malani is a Winifred Johnson Clive Foundation Distinguished Visiting Fellow for Interdisciplinary Painting Practices.
