Collector’s RoomPost an Event »

As part of the new year, Togonon Gallery will be introducing a new exhibition format known as the Collector's Room. Year-round, the Collector's Room will showcase works by new and ongoing gallery artists, so that we may always keep you abreast with collectible artwork. Highlights from this month's Collector's Room include the introduction of artists Pantea Karimi and Luis Gutierrez. Works by Luis Gutierrez Gutierrez has been recognized as an influential Mexican-American artist since the mid-sixties. For over four decades, he taught a myriad of artists working for the San Jose City College. In his recent body of work, Gutierrez continues to challenge present-day societal issues. Works on Paper by Pantea Karimi Karimi's creations are inspired by the visual features and content of mass media, combining both layers of iconic cultural imagery and illegible text. Her use of recognizable symbols and characters serve as a metaphor for cultural identity, societal restrictions, corporate hegemony, and political censorship.
