Please join us for the opening of, From the Beast to the Blonde: New Works by Karen Thomas, on Sunday February 20, 2011 from 2-5pm at WE Artspace, in Oakland. From the Beast to the Blonde, explores a “nuveau-grotesque” style that hints at the fable stories told by your grandmother juxtaposed by the magazines that your father kept hidden. Her interest in mythology, femininty and the family tree are overtly exposed by her imagination. Her tendency towards exaggerating the mythological significance of hair questions the intelligence and sexuality of her subjects, continually questioning the duality of wo(man) and beast. By pushing the line between beauty and creature, her prints and drawings have the viewer questioning the reality of "true beauty".
