Cafe Royale is pleased to present Recent Paintings by Alexis Grant. Alexis Grant's landscapes apply the tradition of plein air and studio landscape painting to her images of contemporary urban surroundings. Grant's work brings attention to unnoticed elements of the Bay View, and other Bay Area neighborhoods. In the work, images of graffiti, cars, scavenger recycling trucks, and community gardens are reconfigured within a genre usually concerned with scenes of the pastoral. The paintings have both a deep sense of place and uncanny sense of elements out of place. The effect is bright, lush and contemporary. The show will be on view June 29th through August 3rd. Please join us for the opening reception Thursday July 3rd from 8 pm to midnight.
