The Reality Shows: Karen Finley Uncensored
Few other contemporary artists so fully embody YBCA’s Big Idea of Encounter more than Karen Finley. Her performance work—celebrated for exploding taboos around sex, gender, and celebrity while suffering (earning?) right-wing censure—invites the viewer to plumb the depths of satire and socio-political tragicomedy. Her oeuvre transcends the insular, echo-y art world with explosive and cathartic forays into club culture, pop music, and publishing—most recently with the release of her newest book, The Reality Shows. Join Karen as she performs excerpts from The Reality Shows and has a conversation with YBCA’s Executive Director, Ken Foster. Program followed by a Q & A. Advance RSVP is recommended for guaranteed admittance: http://www.ybca.org/reality-shows-karen-finley Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (701 Mission Street, San Francisco, CA 94103)- Screening Room FREE
