Open Space, the SFMOMA blog, and the online journal Art Practical collaborate on a three-part series of conversations considering the survival strategies that artists develop and adopt to gain recognition and financial viability. Utilizing artist Stephanie Syjuco's collaborative project Shadowshop as a jumping-off point, "Shop Talk" will examine the ways artists attempt to re-structure market conditions to support or help further the aesthetic and critical capacities of their work, as well as how the public encounters artist projects that address or reflect larger social questions about economy and autonomy.
This final evening of our three-part conversation program will be a brainstorming session, in which attendees are encouraged to consider possible models for autonomy in these tough economic times.
Hosted and moderated by Patricia Maloney, editor in chief, Art Practical, and Suzanne Stein, community producer and managing editor of Open Space, SFMOMA.
