Market Street Gallery is pleased to present la terre a solo exhibition by established artist, Tamara White, opening April 4, 2011, and running through April 29, 2011. The artist reception will be held on Saturday, April 9th, 2011, from 6 PM - 8 PM.
Landscapes, the set design for our lives, are created through the culmination of our journeys. Layer upon layer, experience upon memory, a richly texturized terrain is born. Tamara White's new series, la terre, originally began by documenting the terrain that exists between her home in Berkeley and that of her husband's favorite place on earth, Fall River. She continued the exploration and found something much more profound when comparing and contrasting the Northern California agricultural topography with that of urban terrains.
The agricultural study includes crop circles, farming documentations and calculations, and pages from environmental manuals, whereas the urban pieces are much more graphical with text from overheard quotes, found objects and borrowed excerpts. As Henri Frederich Amiel said, "any landscape is a condition of the spirit." This series, dedicated to Steven, is a tribute to the spirit that exists in both worlds, ag and urban.
