Idle/Idol "Happy Camper", acrylic on canvas, 58 x 68 in
Opening Reception April 2, 2011 7-10pm Please join us for Paul Wackers third solo show with the gallery, idle/idol. The paintings in his new series explore aura and energy given off by objects in our everyday lives. He presents us with the interiors of rooms and still lifes placed in vitrines and in the outdoors thus drawing our attention to the collections we harbor in our homes and the objects we may encounter outdoors. His paintings draw attention to the innate and very human compulsion to collect objects that already have significance and keep them near us, but also points to our ability to imbue relics, and items with sentimentality, desire, passion, awe, and respect. About Paul: Wackers was born in 1978 in New Haven, Connecticut, earned a BFA from Corcoran College of Art and Design, and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. He received the Tournesol Award from the Headlands Center for the Arts in 2008, and has had solo exhibitions at Eleanor Harwood Gallery in San Francisco. He has been featured in group exhibitions at Cell Project Space in London, Alice Gallery in Brussels, Second Street Gallery in Charlottesville, Samson Projects in Boston, and Aqua Miami with Adobe Books Backroom Gallery and Morgan Lehman, New York.
