Toomey Tourell is pleased to announce a two-person exhibition of new paintings by the artists Lisa Bartelson and Tom DeGroot, entitled HOW THE LIGHT GETS IN.
The title "How the Light Gets in" is an apt metaphor for the concerns and practices of Lisa Bartleson and Tom DeGroot. In both instances, these artists are concerned with manners of perception and the possibilities of alternative realities that are the result of viewing the completed work. The mutability of the real and the perceived are played out by the flattening of space and vibrations of pattern that influences the viewer's vision and perception of that vision. The essential meaning of these works is experienced through the act of seeing- not merely looking and analyzing, but truly seeing.
